Leaded art glass transforms any room into a truly special place. My
windows or light fixtures have a beautiful and
enchanting presence that changes with the light of the day and will delight
you every day, for
years to come.
The presence of leaded art glass in homes and
buildings is a grand American tradition. In 1870
the great Boston painter John La Farge invented
colored opalescent glass and the technique of
plating. With these new materials and techniques,
glass “stainers” were
transformed into glass artists, and around the
world artists began to paint with light. This American renaissance of
leaded art glass which
began on the east coast spread across the world
and continues to this day.
That tradition is what inspires my work. The
beginning of the 20th century was a time
when handcraft was transformed into high art.
The work of Charles and Henry Greene, Frank
Lloyd Wright, Charles Renee Mackintosh, and Louis
Comfort Tiffany set standards for beauty and
harmony in leaded art glass.
Honest
design of simple integrity
was the order of the day. At Hamm Glass Studios,
this philosophy informs my work every
day. It is my sincere hope as an artist that my glass work will
bring beauty to your home too.
